We decided to get away from Fayetteville the first weekend in May, Carl was finally able to hobble around enough after surgery to do something other than stay down and he was one week from returning to work and I was definitely in need of getting away... we decided to leave at nap time and Randi didn't waste any time falling asleep as soon as she got into the car... it was so adorable and she slept for half of the ride. It was great planning by us!
Ryan on the other hand was hungry and wouldn't fall asleep, so we got him chicken and he laughed and ate and was quite the entertainer. Check out his new shoes from Uncle AJ! Randi got some sweet Jordans too... they both rock them pretty much like pro models. We were glad when we arrived despite the adorable kiddos we have!
The first night we decided to go out to a nice dinner, we went to a place called Hiro which is a Japanese Hibachi Steak House, it is amazing! Here is Ryan all ready to go...
We even got the kids assisted chop sticks to use and they were really pros at them, I was so impressed how quickly they picked up the skill and started eating, Randi could even get her salad with them! On a side note Randi is a complete rabbit, this girl ate half an adult sized portion of salad and wanted more, I would have given her more, but we had shrimp, chicken and rice on it's way and I didn't want her to miss out!
Ryan below wouldn't look at the camera... I think he was kind of thinking "come on mom, chopsticks are not a big deal, stop taking my picture and let me eat!" He has also decided he loves ketchup and ate more ketchup this night than he probably did food! But I didn't mind because at least he ate well, which lately has been an issue with this kid. He has a handful of foods he likes, these are: chicken, meatballs, fish sticks, shrimp, peanut butter sandwiches and grilled cheese... yep that's about it!
Randi before heading to the Children's museum in downtown Wilmington, this was so much fun, it was a huge 3 story building that had different rooms for different activities... actually here is a link for it if you want to check it out! I'm sure every state has more than one Children's Museum and I'd highly recommend them!
There was a pirate ship where they could dress up in costume, steer, shoot a cannon, and walk a plank (which is how you get on and off the ship) The kids were scared of the costumes, which I found highly disappointing, but they loved the rest :)
This is the art room! I loved that they had aprons for the kids, I did not feel like getting paint all over them in the early morning! They had so much fun and even daddy got in on some of the painting action. I can't believe how big the twinkies were when here... I remember the first time I tried painting with them and there was paint everywhere (including all over themselves) this time... just on the paper... not even more than a few drops on the table! How'd they get so big!? Where are my babies!?
They had this board that you could build your own track and then send a ball rolling down it and this is after our track was successful and Ryan was saying "Ta Da!" It was so cute and so fun, even for mommy and daddy!
We were inside the space shuttle here... the kids HATED this room, they didn't like the dark atmosphere and they did not like the black light... haha Randi kept trying to wipe the glowing white spots on her shirt off... it was so funny! I felt horrible for laughing, but the whole idea was hilarious to me...
The sign is self explained... What a great way for kids to learn about a pulley!
Here you could build your own car out of different items and then race them, but Randi just stole some that were at the bottom of the track and used them to send vehicles racing down the track... she was consumed at this station for at least 20 minutes, which is a lot considering all you do is put a car down a 10 ft ramp!
At a different building station... I love my little man, he was all over the place and next time we come visit here I will be sure daddy can do all the running after him because momma got a workout and started to sweat after he was through exploring everything here!
Here was a magnetic board and all sorts of activities to do at it, Randi mainly pulled the big magnet on and off and on and off and on and off... well you get the idea... it was funny because it was a strong magnet and everytime she got it to disconnect she would jerk back and laugh... so cute!
There was a weather station with a green screen and the kids were able to sit at the weather desk and be on TV, I couldn't get a good picture of it, but it was funny when they figured out they were on TV, they started waving and telling me "momma me on tv" " Ry ry and Randi on tv momma" :) Here they had a few at home type experiments and Ryan was captivating by the tornado in a bottle one most of all.
Another neat and "awing" machine for the kids... you put different items on the tube and flipped a switch and it would "defy gravity" then when you flipped the switch off it showed the effects with gravity in effect, I know they didn't get the concept, but they enjoyed watching different options balance in mid air :)
There was a garden and a pit of buried treasure... we didn't spend much time here those because it was dirty and we had other things on our agenda this morning so I didn't want them to completely destroy themselves first thing! Yep... I'm a mean mom, but there will be another trip where we will devote all 8 hrs to this place, today 2 was enough for us :)
This was my most looked forward to activity for us as adults... we took a 45 minutes trolley ride through downtown Wilmington to learn about the history of Wilmington and the different families and plantations that existed there. I never realized how much history was in Wilmington and how many famous people had come from there. Really an amazing tour... too bad Ryan didn't cooperate so I spent half the ride trying to handle him... oh well... it was fun none the less!
Two words... JUNGLE RAPIDS
The water park section was closed, but the kids jungle house was open, the go carts were running, the arcade was open and we did it all! the kids biggest hits in the kids room were the bounce cage and ball pit... they were so funny... and definitely caught some air!
Trying to not fall into the pit of alligators...
I don't know how I didn't post a picture of them in the ball pit... I better go find one now...
There we go... I couldn't get a good one of both of them looking or doing something, so here is Ryan falling backward and chilling oh so cool in one of two ball pits and Randi wading through them to probably run to another one... it was really fun!
Then a few arcade games and we got to cash in our tickets, the kids got toy airplances, bouncy calls, tootsie pops, bracelets and... I can't remember anything else :) Just some more junk to keep them busy while we went to a delicious on the beach restaurant called Southbeach Grill
Again... delicious!
They had all the tables covered in white paper for the kids to color on... they had some sour lemons though! Which is demonstrated by our over actor Miss Randi... haha... I love this photo, it could be my all time favorite up to now!
Ryan and his grilled cheese... don't mess with a man and his food!
I love my twinkies... I was looking pretty battered at this point, but we had to get a picture
Carl and his mini me! Aren't they cute!? I couldn't have asked for better looking people in my family.
This was our last real stop in our trip... it was short, full of fun and perfect! The only thing you may ask is where are the pictures on the beach... well Carl was still in his walking boot and crutching, so it would have been too much of a mess and inconvenience to make him crutch on the soft sand on the beach, so we just drove by and enjoyed the views... it was also kind of cool (high 60's) so we wouldn't have gotten in the water and may have been blown away by the crazy wind, so it just worked out better to enjoy the beauties and other sites of Wilmington for once. I can't wait to get away again and hopefully this next time Alan can join us... I hope you enjoyed the photos, but I'm pretty sure you didn't enjoy them as much as we enjoyed taking them! ;-)
Life is good... Life is great... we love our Life!
